What Should I Look for in a Chiropractor in Tampa if I Work Out?

If you work out regularly, the best chiropractor in Tampa is one who understands athletic movement, strength training, and injury prevention. You should look for a chiropractor who focuses on mobility, alignment, performance, and recovery – not just short-term pain relief.

For active adults, lifters, runners, and athletes in Tampa, chiropractic care should help you move better, train harder, and recover faster. Here’s exactly what to look for when choosing the right chiropractor.

Does the Chiropractor Work With Active People and Athletes?

This is the most important factor.

A general chiropractor may focus on temporary pain relief. A chiropractor who works with active people understands:

  • Strength training mechanics
  • Running and repetitive stress
  • Joint mobility and stability
  • Sports-related movement patterns
  • Injury prevention, not just treatment

A sports-focused chiropractor in Tampa will assess how you move, not just where you hurt.

Do They Assess Mobility and Movement First?

A quality chiropractic provider will never adjust you without an evaluation.

What a proper assessment should include:

  • Posture and alignment review
  • Spinal and joint mobility testing
  • Range of motion checks
  • Movement screening
  • Training and activity history

If a chiropractor skips this step, they’re not tailoring care to your body or your workouts.

Do They Focus on Performance, Not Just Pain Relief?

Pain relief is important, but for people who work out, it’s only part of the goal.

A great chiropractor in Tampa for active adults helps with:

  • Improved squat, hinge, and pressing mechanics
  • Better hip, shoulder, and thoracic mobility
  • Reduced stress on joints
  • Faster recovery between workouts
  • Long-term injury prevention

Your chiropractor should be part of your performance and recovery plan.

Do They Integrate With Training and Recovery?

The best results come when chiropractic care is integrated with:

  • Strength training
  • Massage therapy
  • Mobility work
  • Stretch therapy
  • Recovery modalities

At Driven Fit, chiropractic care works alongside personal training, massage therapy, cold plunge, infrared sauna, and recovery services — giving athletes a complete system for staying healthy.

How Often Should You See a Chiropractor if You Work Out?

Frequency depends on how often and how hard you train.

Training 4-6 days per week:

Weekly or biweekly adjustments support mobility and performance.

Training 2-3 days per week:

Every 2-4 weeks helps maintain alignment and prevent stiffness.

Recovering from pain or injury:

More frequent care at first, then reduced as movement improves.

A good chiropractor explains the “why” behind your schedule.

Is Chiropractic Care Good for People Who Work Out?

Yes – chiropractic care is extremely beneficial for people who lift weights, run, or train consistently. It helps improve mobility, enhance performance, reduce pain, and prevent overuse injuries. Athletes in Tampa often use chiropractic adjustments to keep their bodies aligned so they can move better, lift stronger, and recover faster.

Below is a full guide to how chiropractic care supports training and why so many South Tampa athletes pair our Tampa chiropractic treatments with personal training and recovery work.

What Does Chiropractic Care Actually Help With for Active People?

If you work out regularly, your body is constantly dealing with:

  • Spinal compression
  • Muscle tightness
  • Joint restrictions
  • Alignment issues
  • Overuse patterns
  • Asymmetry from lifting or running

Chiropractic care relieves these issues by restoring proper movement through the spine and joints.

Top benefits for people who work out:

  • Improved mobility and range of motion
  • Better lifting mechanics
  • Reduced muscle and joint pain
  • Better alignment for squats, deadlifts, and pressing movements
  • Faster recovery after intense training
  • Improved posture
  • Lower risk of injury

How Does Chiropractic Care Improve Performance in the Gym?

1. Better Range of Motion

Adjustments open up restricted joints so you can move deeper and more efficiently in lifts like:

  • Squats
  • Deadlifts
  • Lunges
  • Overhead press
  • Bench press

When joints move well, muscles activate better, and lifts feel smoother.

2. Reduces Pain and Tightness

Chiropractic care reduces stress in common problem areas:

  • Lower back
  • Hips
  • Neck
  • Shoulders
  • Mid-back
  • Knees

Less pain = better workouts.

3. Improves Mind-Muscle Connection

When your spine and joints are aligned, your nervous system functions more efficiently, improving muscle activation and overall performance.

Do Runners Benefit from Chiropractic Care?

Absolutely – especially in South Tampa, where runners deal with repetitive-pounding stress year-round.

Chiropractic adjustments help:

  • Decrease hip and lower-back tension
  • Improve gait and stride mechanics
  • Reduce knee and IT band discomfort
  • Increase ankle and foot mobility

Many runners report quicker recovery and fewer flare-ups with regular chiropractic care.

How Often Should Active People See a Chiropractor?

Frequency varies based on training intensity:

Highly Active (4–6 training days/week)

Weekly or biweekly chiropractic adjustments support consistent performance.

Moderately Active (2–4 training days/week)

Every 2–4 weeks is usually ideal.

During injury recovery or peak training

Sessions may be weekly until symptoms stabilize.

Top 5 Benefits of Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

Insight from Tampa’s Leading Prenatal Chiropractor

Pregnancy is a magical journey when a woman’s body undergoes incredible transformations to nurture new life. While this period is filled with anticipation and joy, it often comes with its share of discomforts. As a premier Tampa prenatal chiropractor, Dr. Sarah Sponaugle, DC, regularly emphasizes chiropractic care’s profound benefits to expecting mothers. Here, we explore the top five reasons pregnant women in Tampa are turning to chiropractic care.

Natural Pain Relief:

Pregnancy often brings with it a host of aches and pains. These issues can be distressing and debilitating, from back pain to sciatic nerve discomfort. Chiropractic adjustments, particularly in the lumbar and pelvic regions, can relieve the spine by realigning and reducing nerve interference. The best part? It’s a natural alternative to pain medications, ensuring the utmost safety for both mother and baby.

Enhanced Mobility:

As the baby grows and the mother’s center of gravity shifts, many women find it challenging to maintain their balance and move easily. Regular visits to a Tampa prenatal chiropractor can ensure that the spine and pelvis are aligned, promoting better posture and facilitating smoother movement, making daily activities and exercise more manageable and enjoyable.

Optimal Baby Positioning:

A misaligned pelvis can restrict the available space for the developing baby, leading to potential breech or posterior presentations. Chiropractic care can help adjust the pelvis, ensuring ample room for the baby to move into the best possible position for birth. This can lead to a smoother and safer delivery process.

Improved Nervous System Function:

The spine houses the spinal cord – the primary channel through which the brain communicates with the rest of the body. Misalignments, or subluxations, can interfere with this communication, potentially impacting the mother’s and baby’s health. Regular adjustments by a qualified Tampa prenatal chiropractor can optimize nervous system function, promoting overall well-being.

Reduced Labor and Delivery Time:

Several studies have highlighted the potential benefits of chiropractic care in reducing labor times. Proper spinal and pelvic alignment can lead to more efficient contractions during labor. Moreover, with the baby in an optimal position, the stages of labor can progress more smoothly, potentially reducing the overall time and intensity of contractions.

Pregnancy is undeniably a time of change, growth, and adaptation. By choosing chiropractic care, expectant mothers in Tampa are taking proactive steps to ensure their comfort, health, and the best possible start for their babies. As a dedicated Tampa prenatal chiropractor, Dr. Sarah Sponaugle, DC, is committed to supporting women through every trimester, ensuring a smoother pregnancy journey and a memorable birthing experience.

If you or someone you know is expecting and curious about how chiropractic care can make a difference, don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Sarah by contacting us today or calling. Experience the transformative benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy.

Can Chiropractic Care Help You Achieve Your Health & Fitness Goals?

At Driven Fit + SWS, our goal is to provide our clients the best health and fitness experience possible. This means our services don’t just start and stop in the gym. Instead, we believe in attaining optimal health and fitness through personal training and a combination of services such as lifestyle education, massage therapy, and chiropractic care. In this article, we will take a closer look at chiropractic care and how it can help achieve health and fitness goals.

Chiropractic care reduces pain. Whether you’re new to working out or you’re a fitness novice, exercise can lead to muscle soreness and fatigue. It’s just part of the process, albeit a good one. The good news is that regular chiropractic adjustments not only alleviate muscle pain and help you get back to the gym faster, but they can also help to reduce post-workout pain as well.

Chiropractic care improves range of motion. When joints are not moving properly, it can result in significant pain.  Naturally, this will limit your range of motion and flexibility, thus impacting your ability to train. Chiropractic care focuses on returning the spine and joints to proper alignment so your body can perform at its best.

Chiropractic care decreases the risk of injury. There’s a reason why countless professional athletes receive chiropractic care! Because it works! Regular chiropractic adjustments not only treat an injury, but can also reduce the risk of an injury from occurring. In addition, Dr. Sponaugle (our resident chiropractor and an expert on the musculoskeletal system) will offer tips on how to stretch to prevent injury.

Chiropractic care improves your body’s functions. Through regular chiropractic adjustments, your spine will maintain a proper alignment, thus removing unnecessary pressure off surrounding bones, muscles, and joints that would otherwise compensate for a spinal misalignment. Without this extra stress, the body can function properly and is more likely to heal itself naturally should pain or injury occur.

Chiropractic care improves nerve communication. In addition to causing pain and discomfort (and a slew of other issues!), spinal misalignments also impact how the nerves communicate with the brain. Chiropractic adjustments remove any neurological blockages, which helps to relieve the pain, stress, and discomfort caused by a spinal misalignment. Not only does this allow your workouts to be more effective, but proper nerve communication also helps you recognize when you are hungry and when it’s time to put the fork down, which is key in terms of maintaining a proper weight.

In fact, chiropractic treatment is one of the safest, most naturaland most effective forms of therapy used to treat a wide range of issues. Here are some unexpected things that chiropractic care can help with…

What Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a form of therapy that focuses on the body’s natural healing abilities. Treatment typically involves manual therapy such as spinal manipulation, however, exercise and nutritional counseling are often included in a chiropractic treatment plan.

At Driven Fit, our chiropractic teamled by Dr. Sponaugle, uses treatments such as stretchingsustained pressure, and specific joint manipulations that are delivered by hand and involve a quick and gentle thrust. Chiropractic care is often the first step in reducing chronic pain.

“There is a vast difference between treating the effects and adjusting the cause.” – Dr. D.D. Palmer

Unexpected Ailments Treated by Chiropractic Care

Immune System Support

What’s the best defense when it comes to preventing illness and overall wellness? A strong and healthy immune system!

For those who get sick often and typically turn to antibiotics, chiropractic care is an excellent way to give your immune system a boost – especially when paired with eating a gut-healthy and balanced diet as well as regular physical activity.

Chiropractic manipulation (and a properly aligned spineimproves the nervous system, thus helping every cell and organ in your body – including your immune system!

Improved Sleep & More Energy

There’s a lot going on right now – for everyone – and it’s not helping in terms of getting a good night’s sleep. In addition to stress, pain and discomfort also play a role in sleeping issues. Enter chiropractic care. Not only can this form of therapy regain healthy sleep patterns, it can also give you more energy.

Stress: How Acupuncture Can Help

Dealing with an extra dose of stress these days? You’re not alone. Between balancing work, homeschooling the kids, and other commitments, your stress levels are likely through the roof! What you may not realize is how stress can lead to significant health issues such as high blood pressure, heart conditions, premature aging, and a slew of other conditions. It’s time to get help! At Driven Fit in South Tampa, we can help ease (and manage) your stress levels with effective, chiropractic care treatments such as acupunctureSee how

What is Acupuncture?

Ancient Chinese medicine believes the physical body to be regulated by an energy force called Qi.

Similar to the circulatory system, Qi moves throughout the body via pathways called meridians. If the body is in a state of good health, it has optimal energy flow, and if the body is in an unbalanced state, it creates energetic blockages.

Acupuncture promotes the body’s healthy energy flow of Qi and opens the blockages that may lead to physical and emotional disorders. It has been proven by numerous scientific studies to be one of the most viable and effective alternative methods for healing and overall well-being.

Acupuncture is a natural, drug-free treatment for stress!

How does Acupuncture Treat Stress

Stress is your body’s response to handling tough or demanding situations. Your nervous system springs into action and releases hormones that prepare you to either fight or take off i.e. the “fight or flight” response.

By strategically inserting needles half a millimeter away from a nerve, acupuncture eases stress by releasing endorphins that stimulate the part of the brain that control emotions (including stress and anxiety) and leads to a more balanced Qi

Acupuncture offers benefits in other areas that can also reduce stress, some of which include:

Manage Stress with Acupuncture

To manage chronic stress and anxiety, people often turn to anti-anxiety medication which can result in negative side effects, such as weight gain, insomnia, dizziness, and more. Acupuncture is an effective and natural method of treating stress which attacks the problem at its roots. Best of all, the symptoms lessen almost immediately!

At Driven Fit, we are proud to be partnered with Sponaugle Wellness Studio – one of Tampa’s premier chiropractic and natural healing specialists! We focus on creating a total healthy lifestyle at our studio gym.  If you are interested in learning more about acupuncture or would like to schedule a FREE consultation, please click here or call/text team Driven at (813) 440-3016.

What’s That Sound? Chiropractic FAQs

Are you curious about visiting a chiropractor, but also skeptical as well? At Driven Fit + Sponaugle Wellness Studio Tampa, our chiropractic care focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of issues with the spine, nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems to restore total body health. Our chiropractor, Dr. Sarah Sponaugle, uses a holistic approach and takes into consideration the many variables that affect health such as diet, environment, rest, and exercise. Here we answer some of the more common questions about chiropractic treatments.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment (a.k.a. spinal manipulation) is a procedure performed by a highly trained chiropractor who uses his or her hands (or a small instrument) and applies a low force in a specific direction to a specific joint. This is a quick and gentle movement that is neither forceful nor painful.

What is the goal of a chiropractic adjustment?

The ultimate goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to improve body mechanics and correct subluxations (what occurs when one or more spinal vertebrae move out of position and create stress or irritation of nearby nerves, preventing the body from functioning normally).

The adjustment helps to eliminate any interference to the nervous system, improve spinal function, and overall health.

What is that sound I hear?

Sometimes the adjustment can produce a cracking or popping sound. This is absolutely nothing to be alarmed by and is completely normal.

When the chiropractor moves joints to the body’s end range, a little bubble of gas is released from the joint capsule called joint cavitation. This release of gas can sometimes create a popping sound. Anyone new to chiropractic treatments may think their bones are cracking. We promise this is not the case!

Are chiropractic adjustments painful?

Not at all. However, some clients will experience temporary soreness or achiness after an adjustment – comparable to the soreness felt after a workout. Typically, the adjustment has the opposite effect and relieves pain immediately.

Are all patients adjusted the same way?

No. Each adjustment is as unique as each client. There are hundreds of ways to adjust the spine, and each person is adjusted based on their body types and specific needs. At Driven Fit + Sponaugle Wellness, Dr. Sarah applies the best adjustment technique for each individual.

How many treatments will I need?

Again, each client is different, and therefore each person will have a customized treatment plan based on his or her needs. Chiropractic treatments can range from just a few days to several weeks, depending on the severity of the condition.

Still wondering if chiropractic care is for you? We’re here to help! Please call or text us at (813) 440-3016 with any questions or to schedule a free consultation with our South Tampa Chiropractor.

How Chiropractic Care Improves Athletic Performance

Every athlete has a competitive edge that strives for peak performance. That edge is what makes us train properly, eat the right foods at the right times, and maintain our overall health to improve performance and define endurance. Another great way to ensure your body is in peak condition is through chiropractic care. Best used as a before and after treatment, chiropractic care can prepare your body to perform at its best and help it recover one you’ve put it through the grind. Need some convincing that it actually works? Read more about how chiropractic care improves athletic performance:

Preventative Care. Chiropractic care is not just effective to treat injury, but also for preventative care. Through regular chiropractic treatments, you will be able to target areas that are susceptible to injury based on your medical history, your exercise regiment, and your current level of athletic performance.

Peak Performance. Because injury prevention is a huge component of chiropractic care, your body is going to be healthier and stronger. You can train harder and test your limits with a lower risk of injury which only can improve your athletic performance. Chiropractic treatments can also help further your range of motion, enhance your flexibility, and increase your overall health.

Reduces Pain. If you’re injured, chiropractic care targets the pain at the source and eliminates the main problem, not just the symptoms of the problem. Treatments such as spinal decompression therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and professional massage are effective in releasing the pressure of your injury and reducing pain.

Optimize Recovery Time. As an athlete, recovery is critically important to reduce pain and prevent injury. Many chiropractic treatments revolve around the nervous system, which plays a large role in recovery from an injury. If you’ve been injured, your chiropractor will make sure your nerve signals are operating properly, your muscles are relaxed, and your blood is circulating correctly.

Less Medication. A great benefit to chiropractic care is that it’s a medication-free option for treating and preventing a vast range of injuries that can impact athletic performance. This all-natural approach to healing prevents dependence on medications that can become addictive or cause adverse side effects.

Simply put, chiropractic care for sports injuries is one of the best low-risk treatments to complement other medical treatment, speed-up your recovery, and reduce pain. Sound like something you need? We can help! If you’re interested in a free consultation with our South Tampa chiropractor, please call us today at (813) 440-3016.
