2022 Challenge: Finding Time to Workout

January 20th, 2022

Kids, school, work, social events…life is B.U.S.Y! Unfortunately, going to the gym is often one of the first things to get cut from the schedule. We get it, BUT at the same time, we don’t think it should become a habit! Staying in shape is important to maintaining a hectic lifestyle and cutting the gym out completely because you don’t “have time” is just an excuse. You’re just not finding the time. Here are a few simple ways you can easily work a new exercise regimen into your schedule.

Prioritize Your Health

Your health is important, so make it a priority! Look at your calendar and reserve time slots for your workouts each week. You may have to reschedule other commitments, but that is fine. Hang on to the ones that are urgent but move the not-so-urgent to the following week. This is important…once a workout is on the schedule, DO NOT CHANGE IT! Commit to your fitness goals and do not let other commitments get in your way. Of course, if you miss a workout, don’t beat yourself up. Just get back on track with the next one!

Plan Ahead

Yes, plan your workouts ahead of time, but also prepare for them accordingly! For example, if you plan to work out during your lunch break, pack your lunch and gym bag (water bottle, towel, earbuds, snack) the night before. By having your lunch ready to go, you won’t spend valuable time finding food. If you can only work out at night, meal prepping is a great idea! This will allow you to throw a healthy dinner together quickly without having to spend hours in the kitchen.

Ask for Help

Between friends, family, and neighbors, you probably have plenty of options for childcare, carpooling, or delegating other tasks. All you need to do is ask (and promise to return the favor!). This is a great way to free up some time so you can focus on YOU for a little while at least.

Partner Up

Working out with a friend is a great way to establish accountability for your workout routine. Trust us, it’s a lot harder to cancel a workout when someone is relying on you to be there. A personal trainer is another option and someone that will hold you accountable for your fitness goals and help motivate you when you’re just not feeling it.

Make Exercise Convenient

When time is a factor, convenience is huge so make your workouts easy and accessible. At Driven Fit + Sponaugle, we offer both in-studio and virtual personal training sessions – both of which can be easily worked around your busy schedule.
